There Once was an Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe

I'm 27 now and while it's not a shoe, our condo is pretty tiny.

I had a great birthday, my husband never disappoints! The kids gave a a "mom necklace" that I had my eye on with their initials. I can't wait for it to arrive! I also got some gear for my iphone and the gym because he knows what I need most right now is a nap-I mean, motivation. We had babysitters on hand to have a kid free lunch/movie date AND the the best part: a homemade video of the babies all singing and dancing to our favorite songs! I LOVE it. I cried of course. He made me a "mama" themed video last year and I told him I would be thrilled with another for my gift this year-these are priceless! So now I have our version of Twinkle, Twinkle, Itsy Bitsy Spider and more forever on film. If I can get tech savvy I will post it here.

Thanks Love for all the effort you went to! I am blessed!

Laundry Day

We get tired of our toys pretty quickly these days. That's when chores like laundry folding are so much fun! Here's a few pics of my twinnies is daddy's clothes

That Escalated Quickly

We have been battling the c-word all week. That's right, CROUP. What started with the sniffles escalated quickly into honking coughs and a couple of truly scary stridor/wheezing attacks while my precious baby girl tried to sleep. Gracie got steroid treatment as she was worse off than Tate. Thankfully they both seem to be on the mend today. Maybe we can turn to humidifier down tonight so their room won't feel like the rain forest every morning.

They caught this lovely illness from daycare, which is to be expected to a certain extent. But I can't help feeling like I wish I had been told another girl there had it-I would have kept them home. I just would have liked the information to make the best choice for my kids health. This brought me think in depth about my role as advocate for my kids (while I was in the shower, the only place around here quiet enough for thinking).

I have a few family members who act pretty put out and offended any time I try to implement a "family rule" or remind them of something I don't want them to do with the babies. We aren't kissing on the mouth, period. Their daddy and I are the only ones with "permission" to do this as we are neck deep in each other's germs anyway. I am also a stickler about sharing food unnecessarily (i.e. baby is eating something and you want a lick of their spoon just for fun) and when the Fall rolls around I become a Purrell Nazi.

Are my little rules silly to you? Maybe so.

Will they stop my kids from catching a single cold this season? Probably not.

Do you like me less for pestering you? To quote Sarah Jessica Parker from The Family Stone "I don't care if you like me or not!"

Ok, I care, and I always try to be gentle with this stuff as to not offend. But the bottom line is this: TOO BAD. I am the Mom. I get to decide what is best, appropriate, and important to my child's well-being. Great-Great Grandmothers be forewarned, I have been known to turn into "Mama Bear" as Sean calls me, when I feel like my requests are being ignored and my child is in danger of anything-this includes your "oh it's just allergies" cold! Not to mention, when you are done slobbering all over my child and they do end up with a flu or stomach bug, I am the one taking care of it. I am the one giving Tylenol at 3am and sitting for hours on end with twins who ONLY want to be held. So while you may take offense to my implication that you have *gasp* germs, it's better than my silently cursing you in the middle of the night and sending you a pediatrician bill.

Call me a jerk, overprotective, rude, whatever, but make no mistake, I am a Mother.

Fall

and I'm not talking seasons.

Saturday Benny and I went to check out a local MoM sale at my church and I tripped on the way in. He was in a bjorn and I stumbled forward and then fell. on. top. of. him.

I remember screaming "Oh My God" a few times just sitting on the pavement before women rushed to help me. Today I am thanking God that Benny is perfectly healthy and we can't find a scratch on him. I am thankful two of the people to came to help me had medical training with infants and calmed me down. I am thankful they knew what to look for and and I needed to do. I am thankful the paramedics that arrived were fathers and also were wonderful to me/us, talking about potty training and funny kid stories to distract me on the ride to Children's hospital. I am thankful that my scraped up knuckles and achy shoulder are a reminder of God's protection of my baby, and that I can easily deal with a little pain if it means my 7 week old has NONE. I am thankful that what was red showing where he hit his head, faded quickly without leaving the concussion or brain swelling they warned me about. I am thankful that in freaking out I didn't have my phone with me to call Sean, I remembered that my friend Breanne just happened to have left hers in my car the day before.

Thank you Father for reminding me this Fall that you are here, protecting and providing for my family in ways I may not even see.

Good-bye Sweet Curls

We are taking Tate to get a hair cut today! The curls are precious and I love them, but they are getting too long and unruly. I will probably cry. Here is my tribute to his luxurious locks:
